The Amazon Jungle program is one of the most interesting Spanish learning programs offered by the Instituto Superior de Español. Our Amazon Spanish Courses gives you the opportunity to take Spanish classes and learn about the Amazon Rainforest in this biologically diverse area.
The Amazon Jungle is called el Oriente in Ecuador. It is situated in the eastern part of Ecuador.
Did you know that 10% of the world’s known species live in the Amazon rainforest? In total it is home to around 2.5 million different insect species as well as over 40000 plant species.
Experience a different life in the community of the Shuar in the Amazon Jungle. You will have the opportunity to get to know these extraordinary people… all while learning Spanish!

All of our teachers are native speakers and own a university degree in linguistics or literature. Your teacher will travel with you from Quito to our school locations in the Amazon. Many of our teachers are working with us since the day we founded the school back in 1988. They know the jungle very well and are aware of possible risks.

The jungle lodge is located at the Napo River which is one of the Amazon’s two major tributaries. You will stay in double or triple indian huts with cosy beds and mosquito nets.

NOTE: an unavoidable element of any visit to the rainforest is contact with bugs and creepy crawlies – this applies to all kind of lodges, and may involve insects inside your room. If this does not sound like something you would like to sign up for then a trip to the rainforest is probably not for you.
Consider the variety of animals living in Ecuador’s Amazon: armadillos, honey bears, sloths, bats, tapirs, peccaries, jaguars, monkeys, manatees and many more. There are loads of birds like hummingbirds, toucans, macaws and tanagers on land, and darters, herons and gulls on water.
Enjoy the wonderful nature with a lot of breathtaking trees. The rainforest is also the traditional home of many indigenous communities.
Before you can start your Spanish classes or Travelling classroom with us you need to get here. But no worries: There are many ways to get to the ecuadorian capital, Quito.
Students attending Spanish courses in the Amazon Jungle must first fly to Quito. The Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre (UIO) can be reached from many international departure cities. From Quito Aerogal and TAME, offer daily flights to Coca, which take about 45 minutes.
Optional: Flight is not included in our fees
We recommend our students to take the bus from Quito to Coca. The company Trans-Esmeraldas or Transportes Baños offers its passengers buses, which drive at night. If you take the bus at night you will travel the route: Quito – Baeza – Loreto – El Coca. This trip takes about eight hours.
Included: transfer from Quito to Coca by bus
From Puerto de Orellana (Coca) you will be taken to the eco lodge by motorized canoe.
At the docks choose some rubber boots and make sure, that they fit well. You will need them.
