The teaching method compromises speaking, listening and writing skills. Therefore our program combines oral and written exercises with conversation and vocabulary practice.
Learning processes will be reported at the end of every week, so that we can ensure that the classes are perfectly organized and well prepared.
To beginners we insistently recommend to first take individual lessons or a combination of group and individual classes to accelerate the learning process. However, in case that you should feel uncomfortable with your group course regarding studying speed or another problem, it is always possible to change to indivudal lessons or to switch to another group.

Living with a host family in Otavalo gives you a real insight into the Ecuadorian lifestyle and you will find your Spanish progresses rapidly as you spend time with local people. All of the host families live within a 5-10 minutes’ walk or 5 minutes by bus. Staying with locals is the perfect way to accelerate your learning as you will be able to practice Spanish with the family outside of class. You will also get to know the culture and traditions of Ecuador through sharing everyday life with your hosts. As it is part of the Otavalanian Culture, you will share two meals a day with the family. The meals are very important for them and are the parts of the day when the families come together. You will be integrated as a whole family member.
The host families always give their guests a warm welcome and enjoy the opportunity to share Ecuadorian life and culture with someone from a different country.

Parque del Condor
It is a place that seeks to protect and rescue birds /observe and get to know a variety of birds, flight show
Waterfall Peguche
one of the most important attractions of the city, just 5 minutes from the city of Otavalo, a ritual and spiritual place / is a sacred place for the culture of Otavalo / mountains, lakes and lagoons.
The Mojanda Lagoon
complex of 3 lakes / located at 17km far from the city ​​of Otavalo / glacial lake / black lagoon / volcanic / great view to the hill Fuya Fuya which is 4,263 meters above sea level to which it is possible to ascend without much difficulty
Waterfall Taxopamba
It is a beautiful waterfall / located in the western sector of the city of Otavalo/ To reach the waterfall you have to walk down a path where we can see beautiful scenery
Cooking Party
During the week, the ISE organizes cooking classes, where the group cook typical Ecuadorian dishes. Students participate in the preparation of the dishes in the company of teachers to share, enjoy and learn more about the Otavalenian culture.
Plaza de Ponchos
Roads are packed with visitors buying woollen goods such as blankets, ponchos, sweaters and hats, as well as the traditional embroidered blouses, hammocks, carvings, jewelry and paintings/ bargaining expected / don’t be shy

Museo Viviente
Another free activity is the visit to the city museum, where you can see part of the Otavalo culture and history.

Arrival to Otavalo

Bus

Otavalo is located just 2 hours via car or 3 hours via bus from Quito. There are several buses per hour that leave from the Carcelen Bus Station in Northern Quito. You can either take a taxi or one of the blue busses, called Metrobus to get to the terminal. The ticket price is approximately about 2US$.
You will reach the bus terminal in Otavalo after approximately 3 hours. From there the taxi is about 1$ to your accommodation.
Moreover we would be more than happy to organize your transfer from Quito to Otavalo.

our spanish students receive a city map as well as a phone number in case of emergency. If you need assistance buying a mobile phone card, we will help you.

The first day in school
will begin at 08:30 am with the level test. Absolute beginners will not do the test and will start classes straight away. The timetable on the first day may be different to the rest of the week, but will be the same from Tuesday to Friday.
